Nine Card Spread
A further development of the 3 Card Spread.
The cards are laid out in three rows of three. Reading from left to right, in each row, the cards represent the past, the present, and the future. The rows, reading from top to bottom, refer to three planes of existence: spritual, mental, and unconscious, or subconscious.
The middle row represents the plane on which we lead our everyday lives, and represents the physical and conscious mental influences and actions that the querent experiences. Its intepretation resembles the interpretation of the three card spread.
The upper row represents the spiritual plane, the plane of what is sometimes known as the higher mind, or spiritual mind. All our higher inner thoughts and feeings, and motivational life, belong here. Depending on your personal beliefs, you may think of this as a connection to a god or gods, or to a supreme natural and spiritual force pervading the universe. Influences from this plane often take the form of revealed insights, which may be considered intuitive in nature.
The lower row represents the unconscious, or subconscious, plane. Our subconscious works constantly to supply the essential needs of the body, things like food, shelter, and protection. It will always have its influences on the conscious mind and actions, in a manner considered instinctual. However, it is important to remember that the subconscious can make mistakes: for example, a bad toothache might be sufficient to distract the attention from hearing a ringing fire alarm, even though at that specific moment in time, the latter should be more important.
