Two of Wands

Minor Arcana

Two of Wands

Ted, the rich merchant, master of all he surveys, stands on the roof of his house overlooking the harbour. With raised wand, he greets the sailor in the boat below, while his lady stands nearby with another wand.

The globe at Ted’s side and the ship in the distance represent his far-reaching trading activities and his control over them; but the roses and lilies among the cargo of the small boat (you can see these more clearly on the finished card than in the small picture on this webpage) are a reminder of the inpermanence of material belongings. A fire burns in a sconce at the side of the house, showing the energy devoted to his actions, while the lighthouse represents the guiding and protecting aspects of the element of fire.

Divination

Balance, control, and correctness in the making of plans, especially plans of a business nature. Openness and honesty will bring rewards, while dishonesty or disharmony will bring harm. This card may illustrate the early stages of a new venture, or possibly a quick and succesful conclusion of one: “Your ship has come in.”
