Three of Wands

Minor Arcana

Three of Wands

Ted and Fraser, as travellers, are starting to prepare their evening meal by erecting a tripod to support their cooking pot over the fire. Their vardo (the Romany name for a caravan) can be seen in the background. No doubt their horse is tethered nearby, able to graze contentedly. The ingredients for their meal are ready on the ground in front of them. Behind them, a benign red sun sinks towards the horizon. The fire is, of course, the physical manifestation of the elemental fire represented by the suit of wands.

In this card, the three wands are used to construct a tripod. The tripod is a very stable form, its three legs will stand steady on any firm surface. Two legs will topple without additional support. Four legs, as for example the legs of an ordinary table, may rock back and forth on uneven ground. But the tripod must be made correctly in order to stand properly, and here we see the companions working together to achieve this.

Divination

Partnership, cooperation. Early stages of a venture, first steps. Opportunities show themselves. Stability, but only if all partners play their part.
