Minor Arcana
Eight of Wands
Fraser stands on top of a wall, the better to receive the urgent message brought by Ted on his aerial journey. The message is carried in a wand. Seven other wands form a ladder to climb the wall. Fire burns in a brazier outside Fraser’s watch hut.
We have stepped away somewhat from the ancient feel of many of Ted’s cards to portray him piloting a modern looking hang glider, to give an even greater impression of speed and urgency. But the background and various other details show us that we are in very much the same world that is portrayed by the other cards.
The colours of the brightly decorated hang glider do not make a true rainbow. Naturally, they contain the red of the fire element, but also include yellow and blue, representing air and water, both of which are strongly linked to movement. The green of the earth element, which could tend to hold things back, is replaced by black, in this instance intended to represent nothing, or more precisely the lack of any obstacle to progress.
Divination
News arriving swiftly. Swift action to bring swift rewards. The possibility of a journey. End of a period of delay. Prospect of a change for the better. You can climb the ladder to success, if you are prepared to take some small risks – emotional, physical, or financial – in the immediate future. This card can also be an indication of the spirit beginning to enter fully into the realm of personal consciousness.
