The Star
Floating in space far above the Earth, Ted has himself become the Star.
The Star represents a higher energy of consciousness that can be tapped, in order to achieve a sense of tranquility, combined with confidence in the ability to be able to deal with what is to come, however great and awe-inspiring that may be. This is what is sometimes known as star quality – the quality that makes somebody into a truly outstanding person.
Other decks depict the individual waiting for, or working towards, coming under the influence of the Star. In Ted’s Tarot, he has already attained that state. Thus, Ted is set against the splendid immensity of space, the amazing spectacle of which must be awesome, in the most literal sense of the word.
To convey this splendour, instead of a simple hand drawn starry sky, we chose to use a couple of the beautiful space images generously provided by NASA. We have, admittedly, combined them in a way that would never be seen by the human eye, not even that of a space traveller, but which is intended to be even more impressive. In the background is an image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope of the nebula known as NGC 3603, in the constellation of Carina, where new stars are being formed. Superimposed on this is an image of Earth, as photographed by astronauts on the Apollo 16 Moon mission.
Although isolated in space, Ted remains firmly tethered to his spacecraft, and thus retains a stong link with the rest of humanity. It is this link to others that renders his star quality meaningful. One cannot truly be a star only to oneself.
Divination
Peace, tranquility, wholeness, inner calm, detachment; confidence, vision, loss of inhibition, anticipation of great things to come. A small warning that too much detachment can lead to a sense of loneliness; nevertheless there may be great rewards for great efforts, with a broadening of horizons and recognition of personal worth.
